HISTORY
Network
of Executive Women addresses the common business interests
and issues of women in executive, professional and
entrepreneurial roles through the exchange of ideas,
information, and experience. Network
has grown from a nucleus of six businesswomen brought
together in 1979 by our founder, Phyllis Holt, to the
current membership of 100. [Pictured

Ahrens, who spoke at our June 2007 Installation of Officers.]
On
April 3, 1979, Phyllis Holt, Diane Brady, Rena Plank,
Audrey Polchies, Carol Pryke and Audrey Wilson discussed
the establishment of a "network" in Milford. As Phyllis
proclaimed, "There is a need for an organization that
gives women the opportunity to share resources, discuss
problems, objectives and make business contacts."
On
September 12, 1979, the Network of Executive Women was
unanimously accepted by the Milford Chamber of Commerce
as an affiliate. Membership grew to include women from
all sectors of the city's business community, as well
as the surrounding areas. In June of 1996, Network became
incorporated. We remain associated with the Milford Chamber
of Commerce. The Network president is a member of the
Chamber Board of Directors.

One
of the primary community services of Network is the
annual
scholarship program. It has been more than 10 years that
the Network has been providing money for educational
programs
for women who would not ordinarily be able to afford
them. For several years, Network has focused scholarship
funding
within the community, specifically in the city's self-sufficiency
program. Network has been successful in helping women
fulfill their dream of achieving higher education.
Women
have used the scholarships to take summer courses, enroll
in workshops and enhance their job skills.
The
Network of Executive Women meets on the first Tuesday
of each month. Along with featured speakers, every member
has the opportunity to show other members what you and
your business has to offer.
Members
continue to share their knowledge and experience, thus
making Network of Executive Women the vital organization
envisioned by its founders in 1979.
