November 2009

During the planning and preparation for the Network's annual scholarship fundraiser, Girl's Night Out, it's ironic that I received a note from one of our past scholarship recipients, Sherri Knapp. In the note, dated May 2006, Sherri expresses her appreciation for receiving the scholarship, noting that she's been on a long road paved with challenges balancing her family, home and work commitments. She says that she's looking forward to advancing her education and thankful for the opportunity that we have given her.

Written in different ink on the side of the note, Sherri writes that she intended to mail this card to us years ago but never did. Fast forward to 2009: Sherri is now graduated and has her diploma as an R.N. Wow! What a big change in her life!

Thanks to all who are putting so much time and effort into Girls' Night Out.  The money raised really does make a difference in the lives of our scholarship recipients.

Business Tip of the Month
How do you know whether your key employees are really producing?

In many small businesses, the owner makes subjective decisions about performance, or judges employees only by how well they perform the duties included in their job descriptions. A better way to judge performance is to measure how well employees are meeting objectives that are helping to further the company.
